It's Who We Are

I'm in the process of gathering stories to put in a Wrap for the Summit Daily News later in November—and I'm reading about all the things we do! Once again, I was struck - "there is something extraordinary that happens when a Rotarian has an idea."

It might start quietly — a passing thought, a conversation over coffee, a moment of recognizing a need in our community. And then, instead of letting it drift away, a Rotarian says, “What if we did something about this?”

And then we do.

We gather others.
We reach across our club, into our neighborhoods, across nonprofits, businesses, schools, and faith communities.
We share the vision — and people step forward. Every single time.

This is how ordinary people create extraordinary impact.

Look at just a SMALL PORTION of what we have done — not as a fundraising organization, not as a social club — but as a community of people with heart, commitment, and the willingness to roll up our sleeves:

  • The Community Dinner: What began as a simple effort to feed neighbors has grown into hundreds of thousands of meals served with dignity, kindness, and welcome. And not just by us — but by more than 75 nonprofit partners who now join the effort. We didn’t just feed people. We built a community of care.

  • Keeping Kids Warm: Years ago, we learned that some children in our community were going to school without proper winter clothing. We didn’t shrug. We got to work. And because we did, children step onto playgrounds and school buses warmed not just by jackets and gloves — but by the knowledge that their community cares.

  • Supporting Nonprofits: We live in a community full of organizations doing deeply important work — housing, mental health, youth leadership, literacy, crisis support, food access, and much more. Rather than trying to “be everything,” we ask: How can we help them succeed? And then we give, we show up, we partner, we amplify — and the ripple effects multiply beyond anything we could accomplish alone.

This is the Rotary Club of Summit County at our very best.

Not loud.
Not flashy.
Just steady, heartfelt, unstoppable service.

Every person who joins, every volunteer hour given, every dollar stewarded carefully and thoughtfully — becomes part of something much bigger than any one of us.

For me, I just want to say:

I am so proud to be part of this club. I am honored to serve alongside each of you. And I am so grateful for the ways we show up -- consistently, quietly, compassionately -- to make life better for people we may never even meet.

Our impact is enormous.

So let’s keep dreaming.
Let’s keep saying, “What if we did something about this?”
Because we already know what happens next:

We will.
And it will matter.

With warm Rotary hugs,

Judi

NOTE ABOUT LORI:

We will be working closely with Lori’s family to determine the most meaningful way to honor her memory. Lori was a bright light in our club — her kindness, energy, and dedication touched us all. As we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the joy and inspiration she brought to Rotary and to each of us.

Our goal is to ensure that her legacy continues to shine through the work she cared about so deeply. We will share the outcome of our discussions with you soon. Donations in her name may be given here.
