We need new Members!  How can we attract those who have Rotarian hearts but don't about us?  What can we do?  Please bring someone you know to a meeting.  Welcome guests with open arms.  Find out what they like to be involved with - what motivates them.

Please remember to pick up your ICE MELT ticket package!  You can call me, 970.485.0824, or Cindy Levin, 781.910.1588.  We will get the tickets to you. Also, think about places to hang our posters.  They will be ready to pick up at the meeting.

Sledding/Snowshoe Party at Sandy's Broken Heart Ranch is Sunday February 23rd, 1:00pm.  Beer, Wine, sodas and yummy chile are provided.  Please bring a side or dessert.

The Summit County Rotary Club is excited to announce its participation in two service trips to Bocas del Toro, Panama, in 2025! Following the success of our 2024 trips.   Please consider joining this service trip for a week filled with meaningful work with fellow Rotarians and unforgettable experiences.  Trip Dates: April 20 - 26, 2025 and October 2025.  Registration Deadline for the April Trip: February 19, 2025.

As time goes on, we tend to lose members.  One such valued member was Bernie Zurbriggen.  For those 'old timers' (like me) who would like to send a card, words of comfort or other thoughts to Bo, Bernie's wife, the address is:

Annual writing contest kicks off
The Rotary Club of Summit County has partnered with the Summit County Libraries to present Write the Rockies, a celebration of writing that includes writing contests that offer prizes, author visits and workshops. A poetry and short story contest is now open for Summit County adults and high school and middle school students in English and Spanish.

Entries will be judged by a panel of 12 local education advocates. Cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 will go to first-, second- and third-place winners in each category. Writers can submit as many entries as they want, but only their best submission will win. All entries of quality will be collected and published in an anthology that will be added to all three libraries’ collections. The deadline for all submissions is March 17, 2025.

Here are some general guidelines:
• All poetic forms are accepted
• Short stories must be 5,000 words or less
• All submissions must be original
• Submissions for all ages and categories can be made online at https://forms.gle/u2hmsKT5VycfEMSM6
• All first-, second- and third-place winners will have the chance to read their work aloud for Krystal 93

The first author visit will be Jan. 18. Byron Graves, an award-winning young adult writer, will engage listeners with his journey as a writer and where he finds inspiration. The talk will be free to the public. It begins at 5 p.m. at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne.

In February, acclaimed author Pam Houston will speak at the North Branch library in Silverthorne at 6 p.m. Feb. 5.  Her stories are included in volumes of The O. Henry Awards and Best American Short Stories of the Century. She is best known for her book "Cowboys Are my Weakness." Houston teaches at the Institute of American Indian Arts, is a professor of English at U.C. Davis and is co-founder and creative director of the literary nonprofit Writing By Writers. The event is free.

Other sponsors of Write the Rockies are Next Page Books and the Education Foundation of the Summit.

Prevent ClubRunner Emails from getting "Junked"

To ensure that the club newsletter and other Clubrunner emails are successfully delivered to your email inbox, add the following email address and domain name to your email's contact list/safe senders/whitelist:

  1. mailservice@clubrunner.ca
  2. @clubrunner.email

What is a whitelist and why is this needed?

Email spam filters often include the ability to "whitelist" certain sender IP addresses, email addresses or domain names to protect their email from being rejected or sent to a junk mail folder.

From Wickipedia:  A whitelist is (1) a list of email addresses that a mail server or email client program is configured to accept as valid, incoming mail. Also called a "safe senders list," only messages from addresses on the list are allowed, and all the rest are discarded.   (2) A list of valid domain names that a mail server is configured to accept. All mail from users with that domain are allowed.

Gmail:

According to internet:  Gmail offers an option to add specific addresses or domains as "safe" so they aren't automatically marked as spam, known as a "Whitelist." Your Whitelists must be managed and set by you. If you want to accept all email sent from a specific address, follow these instructions:

  1. Log in to your Gmail
  2. Click the gear icon in the top-right, and select Settings.
  3. Click the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab.
  4. Click Create at New Filter.
  5. In the pop-up window, in the From field enter the clubrunner email addresses listed above separated by OR. example mailservice@clubrunner.ca OR @clubrunner.email
  6. Click Create filter.
  7. Check "Never send it to Spam".
  8. Click Create filter
