It's April already! That means it's scholarship time for Summit High School. On Monday night Cathy Fogel and several other club members, including prospective member Camille, handed out $16,5000 in scholarship awards to high school students. Our club partners with The Summit Foundation to determine the deserving students. Thanks to Jeanne Bistranin for this partnership over the years. It was SO good to meet these deserving students in person. I think the parents were as happy, if not more so, than the students! Many, many thanks to Cindy Bargell for managing the scholarship committee for quite a few years AND leaving it in amazing shape for Cathy Fogel to take over. Cathy is doing a great job managing this committee and will be awarding more than $30,000 in other scholarships in the coming month.
April is Environmental Month for Rotarians. Supporting the environment is the now the newest and 7th Area of Focus for Rotary. Did you know that very minute the equivalent of 1 garbage truck of plastic is dumped into the ocean? Marcy Woodland, our impassioned and busy club environmentalist, started our club Rotary Climate Action Team (RCAT) several years ago. Since then Marcy and her team of fellow Summit County Rotarians have sorted and recycled more than 6,000 pounds of plastic. That's 6,000 pounds that did not end up in the Summit County landfill! Please consider joining Marcy and her team every Wednesday afternoon in the foyer of the Summit High School to clean and sort plastic from various businesses and local citizens. Remember Marcy's rule....if you can push your finger through the plastic, you can recycle it. But, all labels need to be removed. Marcy kindly accepts your clean plastic at each club meeting. PLEASE remember to thank her for coordinating our club's plastic recycling program and for Making Good Things Happen in our community.
Rob Phipps, our PE, introduced our club to the Breck Create new plastic recycling machine that now accepts those darn clam shells that seem to contain every possible fresh food item you buy at the grocery store. The Breck Create plastic recycling initiative is called Precious Plastic. Their new machine chews up those (clean) plastics that are not accepted into regular recycling programs and creates amazingly sturdy and colorful objects such as sleds and hiking carabiners. Rob has also kindly volunteered to accept your hard-to-recycle plastics at each club meeting. Or, you may drop your clean plastics off every Thursday from 11 AM to 8 PM at the Arts District Campus in Breckenridge.
April is also Maternal and Child Health for Rotary. This theme speaks to Rotary's involvement in the well-being of mothers and children around the world. Did you know our club's International Committee under Laura Johnson's leadership supports this initiative with funding to the Amarok Society in Bangladesh, India? The Amarok Society provides education to some of the poorest children on earth by teaching their mothers to become neighborhood teachers. Our club grants have been used to purchase school and teacher supplies as well as pay for classroom electricity and internet. By educating the mothers to become neighborhood teachers, their children, particularly their daughters, are now able to receive an education. Marcy Woodland, yes the same Marcy that runs our club's plastic recycling program and is also our Sergeant at Arms, is the club champion for this international project.
I am so proud that our club has been, and continues, to support Rotary's initiatives in protecting our environment and providing for maternal and child health. Way to go Summit County Rotarians! Making Good Things Happen in our community, our world, and ourselves.

Club Service Committee Chairperson: involves activities that affect the smooth operation of our Rotary club. The Club Service Committee Chair oversees a number of committees that are responsible for our club bulletin, social committee, club bylaws and inventory of club flags. As the Committee Chair, you will participate in our club's monthly board meetings, communicate with your committee members and collaborate with other club members as needed.
Marketing Committee Chair Position
The duties are wide open to create and execute those things which promote our club motto of "making good things happen, in our community, in the world and in ourselves." You will work closely and coordinate with the club president regarding your creative ideas. You will work with our community assets like Krystal93, Summit Daily News, Rotary Social Media, Rotary Website, and other media as appropriate. You will also work directly with the Rotary Sponsor person to learn and further develop the Corporate Sponsors program.

Also called a "safe senders list," only messages from addresses on the list are allowed, and all the rest are discarded. (2) A list of valid domain names that a mail server is configured to accept. All mail from users with that domain are allowed.
Gmail:
According to internet: Gmail offers an option to add specific addresses or domains as "safe" so they aren't automatically marked as spam, known as a "Whitelist." Your Whitelists must be managed and set by you. If you want to accept all email sent from a specific address, follow these instructions:
Log in to your Gmail
Click the gear icon in the top-right, and select Settings.
Click the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab.
Click Create at New Filter.
In the pop-up window, in the From field enterthe clubrunner email addresses listed above separated by OR. example mailservice@clubrunner.ca OR @clubrunner.email
The Membership Committee needs new Rotary members (especially people who have joined Rotary in the last 2 - 3 years) to join the Committee to help us meet our challenges in attracting and retaining new members. The Committee meets as needed to discuss approaches in how we can add, and involve, new members. We need to recruit new folks to keep our club vibrant and involved in the community!
A Prospective Member should attend 3 meetings before turning in his/her application, sponsor form, a short bio and $50 application fee to the Membership Chairman, David Guignard, or to any one on the Membership Committee. The application will be presented to the Membership Committee for approval. Once approved, the applicant's bio will be posted in our bulletin for 3 weeks. If there are no questions about the Prospective Member, the induction will be scheduled. Two categories of Membership are available – a Family Membership and a Corporate Membership. Please contact an individual on the Membership Committee for details on these new types of Membership.
