My Inspiration

Ok, so maybe he has a hard time judging two minutes, but Jim Brook inspires me.

For some unknown reason, I have been included in most aspects of the car raffle. And I can attest to the fact that there have been more than a few roadblocks this year that have taken enormous time and energy to resolve. I even had to ‘cold call’ on one Town Manager to explain why Rotary matters in our Community. If you’ve ever cold-called, you know how uncomfortable that is. But back to Jim.

When he stood up in front of us in our meeting to talk about the car raffle, he did it out of his profound dedication to Rotary. In spite of years of putting out fires, resolving issues, negotiating with key players, keeping track of all minute details, it is obvious that he truly cares about doing what is good for our community and for Rotary. And he’s right. The car raffle is a huge contributor to Rotary's image in the county.

It’s no wonder Jim is the namesake of the district award called The Jim Brook Tireless Rotarian award.

So, as you look through your to-do list this week, I encourage you to scan the car Raffle sign-up genius available on our website, and pick just one shift you will take to sell car raffle tickets.

Personally, I think it’s fun. The picture below is the FRISCO,TEXAS Rotary Club President I sold tickets to at the Agave Festival.

In closing, Jim Brook, your awesome Rotary energy inspires me. You rock!

ADDRESS

1643 MEADOWBROOK LANE

CR 13

DIRECTIONS

From Silverthorne go north on highway 9 towards Kremmling.  Go about 12 miles north on 9.  Some markers you will see: the Blue River campground on your right, mile marker 110 on your right, a parking area on your right, and then, about 50 m, Boulder Creek road, CR 1376 on your left.

If you go to UTE PASS ROAD, you have gone way too far!

If you are coming from the north just turn right on Boulder Creek Road, it is just south of the bridge where Boulder Creek joins the Blue.  The turn is the next one south of Sierra Bosque.

Turn left onto Boulder Creek Road, the road turns right on a bridge over Boulder Creek.  You will see a sign that says Meadowbrook Lane. Continue on the road as it turns west (the only way to go) and drive west about 1 ½miles, then, on your right you will see our log cabin.  Parking is on the lot across (South) of the cabin.  Park diagonally. If you need assist and cannot walk to the cabin go past the cabin and drive to in the driveway – a wooden bear with the sign Edelweiss marks the entrance. Drive in the driveway to the cabin.

You can get AT&T and Consumer Cellular cell reception on a cell phone.  Verizon, etc. does not get cell service.  If you cannot get reception and if you get lost, go to highway 9 until you get cell phone reception, and dial Ann’s cell phone 970 389 0031.

Carpooling is suggested as there is minimal parking available. if you are going for the  hike, keys need to be left in the cars so that they can be moved in case of an emergency.

Any questions call Ann before August 17th at 970 389 0031 or email at almclement@comcast.net

IF IT  RAINS - - IT IS CANCELLED

Jack Bazler
I was born in Ohio and spent my early years in Appalachia. We moved to the Columbus area where I lived on a 9-hole golf course. I played all high school sports except baseball, and my country golf team went to the Ohio State Championship. I grew up working hard bailing hay; planting corn, wheat and soybeans; and making maple syrup. Only now do I understand how lucky I was to have parents who pushed me toward hard work and achievement. After graduating from the US Merchant Marine Academy, I spent a couple years in ships traveling all over the world. I returned to school to earn my MBA from Western Reserve University and worked for a year in Europe for a shipping company. I then settled into my final career as a stock broker in San Francisco in 1970 and retired in 2006. I met my wonderful wife on a United Airlines flight. She’s deceased as of 2023. My daughter Kaitlyn lives in Boulder with her husband, Nick, and daughter, Ayla.

I was born and raised in Chicago and have lived in Washington, D.C., Colorado, and even spent time living abroad. I love cooking for friends and family, playing tennis and exploring the outdoors. Giving back to my community has always been a central part of who I am, and I’m excited about the opportunity to be part of the Rotary Club and contribute meaningfully alongside others who value service and connection.
