I hope that you all have plans to spend quality time with friends and family in the coming week. I will be in New Mexico with my sister's family relaxing and letting the cousins go wild. After a long week of herding cats and trying to get the ducks in a row so that we can get away, I am thankful. Thankful that we have a home and a car and jobs and vacation time. Thankful that my children are healthy and happy. Thankful that my community cares enough to come together to try and make sure that those who don't have enough, get enough.
I am thankful for the Past Presidents of our club for taking on the important task of leading the club, continuing to guide the club and, most recently, asking Judi LaPoint to be our President Elect Nominee for the 24-25 year. Thank you to Judi for saying yes! I am thankful for our current Board of Directors and our President Elect, WendyMyers. I am thankful for the new slate of Board members that Wendy has chosen:

The Book Club met at Steph's house and had a vigorous discussion of "Hell of a Book," which included Deb on Zoom from Belize. Next month's selection is "The Heat Will Kill You First. Life and Death on a Scorched Planet," by Jeff Goodall. We will meet on Thursday, December 7th, at 4pm for discussion (location to be announced).
Future books to be discussed are: January: "The Terraformers," by Annalee Newitz; February: "The Devil's Highway: A True Story," by Luis Alberto Urrea
Summit High School is requesting community support from Rotarians, and others who are willing to have brief conversations about their own career paths, to help students seeking to improve their awareness of the possibilities and prepare for their next steps in life.
• November 15, 2023 - SHS is hosting a Meaningful Career Conversations event for parents, students and community members. RSVP/sign up • November 17, 2023 - SHS needs volunteers for a Career Fair (1:30-3:30) that will focus on Meaningful Career Conversations with students. The school is asking community members to take a survey that will help decide which career programs are most important to the community. Rotarian and School District Superintendent Tony Byrd spoke about the survey during a community broadcast on the district’s Facebook page. The district’s goal is to bridge the gap between traditional educational approaches and the evolving needs and expectations of both industry and postsecondary education. The survey takes about 10 minutes and is open through Nov. 20 at https://bit.ly/476atjv. The district will use insights from survey respondents to help guide the decision-making process and shape the future of programs offered at Summit schools. Bill Gilmore, the district’s director of postsecondary readiness, has offered to personally present the survey’s findings to our club in January.
Thanks to Lord of the Mountains Church, Sunshine Cafe, Copper Mountain and our usual Mountain Comfort, iFurnish and Sherwin Williams, the plastics team upcycled 131 pounds this week. That brings our total to 9656.8.
We need 343.2 more pounds to hit 10,000!! Please bring your plastic into Rotary these next three weeks, so we can hit 10,000 pounds before the wrap comes out. if you've been collecting it at home, now's the time to bring it in!!!
Calling all Rotarians! Here is an easy way to raise funds for our club!
Summit County Rotary Charitable Foundation has been accepted to the Kroger Community Rewards Program. Once you link your City Market Shopper's Card to Summit County Rotary Charitable Foundation, and swipe your City Market Shopper’s Card when shopping, SCRCF will earn a reward. Must do the following steps on a PC/laptop, not your phone!
1. Create a City Market digital account -- Use this link to create a City Market digital account (if you don't already have one).
2. Link your Shoppers Card to SCRCF:
-Sign in to your digital account. Make sure you have a preferred store selected to view participating organizations.
-Look for Community Rewards on the left hand bar.
-Enter Summit County Rotary Charitable Foundation or the "NPO" number PV058
-Click “Save”.
If you need to review or revisit the selected organization, you can always do so under your Account details.
3. SCRCG organization earns.
Any transactions moving forward using the Shopper’s Card number associated with your digital account will be applied to the program, at no added cost to you. City Market donates annually to participating organizations based on your percentage of spending as it relates to the total spending associated with all participating City Market Community Rewards organizations.
To ensure that the club newsletter and other Clubrunner emails are successfully delivered to your email inbox, add the following email address and domain name to your email's contact list/safe senders/whitelist:
Email spam filters often include the ability to "whitelist" certain sender IP addresses, email addresses or domain names to protect their email from being rejected or sent to a junk mail folder.
From Wickipedia: A whitelist is (1) a list of email addresses that a mail server or email client program is configured to accept as valid, incoming mail. Also called a "safe senders list," only messages from addresses on the list are allowed, and all the rest are discarded. (2) A list of valid domain names that a mail server is configured to accept. All mail from users with that domain are allowed.
Gmail:
According to internet: Gmail offers an option to add specific addresses or domains as "safe" so they aren't automatically marked as spam, known as a "Whitelist." Your Whitelists must be managed and set by you. If you want to accept all email sent from a specific address, follow these instructions:
Log in to your Gmail
Click the gear icon in the top-right, and select Settings.
Click the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab.
Click Create at New Filter.
In the pop-up window, in the From field enterthe clubrunner email addresses listed above separated by OR. example mailservice@clubrunner.ca OR @clubrunner.email
