I was born in Corpus Christi, TX and grew up in the Houston area.  I went to the University of Texas at Austin where I received a BS in Civil Engineering and an MBA.  I worked my way through MBA school and graduated without any debt - which would be impossible today.

My wife, Joy Segars, and I got married in 1986 and lived in Austin all but two years since then until our house burned down in February 2022.  Joy has a Bachelors and Masters in Education and a law degree at the University of Texas at Austin.  She worked as a teacher at a college prep school until she decided to get a law degree.  When we met Joy was working as a corporate lawyer at one of the most presigeous law firms in Texas in their Austin office.  She then became the Assistant Dean of Admissions, Placement, and Minority Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law where she implemented numerous innovative and successful programs to recruit top minority students to UT and, upon graduation, place them at top law firms nationwide.  Her groundbreaking work was copied by top law schools throughout the USA.  Joy left this position to focus on raising our son, Justin, and later our daughter, Emily.  Later, Joy started a consulting company to provide guidance to high performing students seeking admissions to top colleges and law schools.  One of her clients was the Secretary of Eductation!  Joy has been retired for over a decade.

Our son, Justin, was a top high school debater.  He and his partner were one of only three teams to qualify twice for the Tournament of Champions national, year-end debate tournament.  Justin continued to debate and was invited three times to the World Debate Tournament (Turkey, Zimbabwe, and Germany).  He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law School, clerked for the 5th Circuit Appeals Court and a Federal Judge in Houston before starting his law practice at Gibbs and Bruns in Houston, where he is now a partner.  Justin is married and has one child, Merritt, our first grand child!

Our daughter, Emily, was a national level volleyball player, named to the All Central Texas team by the Austin American Stateman, and led her team to three consecutive private school championships - the only three ever won by her school.  She was the valdictorian of St Stevens Episcopol School in Austin, the top college prep school in central Texas.  She went on to play four years at Dartmoth where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.  Emily is a Vice President at Prelude Growth Partners, a private equity firm that invests in growing consumer products companies.  Emily is married, but no babies yet!

I like to play pickle ball, road bike ride, swim, and try to stay in shape.  I love to scuba dive when I get the chance.  Joy and I enjoy living here during the summer and fall, and in our house in San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico during the winter and spring.

Growing up in a family that valued the arts, I was lucky to be introduced to music and painting at an early age by my grandmother, a former art teacher. When I left for college, there was no Interior Design curriculum available to study. With my mother's encouragement, I decided to pursue a degree in Education and became a schoolteacher. After teaching for four years, I yearned to explore the world and became an International Flight Attendant. This role allowed me to travel extensively while returning to school to study Interior Design. My travels and studies complemented each other, as I gained insights into architecture and furniture both in the classroom and through real-world experiences. I eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the International Academy of Design and Technology in Chicago. While traveling in Japan, I became deeply interested in the country’s approach to Feng Shui and later I became certified in Interior Alignment, a modern adaptation of Feng Shui principles.. In 2000, I took a leap of faith and moved to Colorado and started my own Interior Design business. Ever since, my work has brought me tremendous fulfillment, reaffirming that I made the right choice. Every day, I have the opportunity to craft personalized, one-of-a-kind spaces that my clients will cherish for years. Guiding clients through the exciting process of transformation inspires me, and I am dedicated to providing exceptional service throughout my designs. I will admit, I am a workaholic and the only time I get to spend outdoors is walking with my Golden Doodle.
